A Summer of Hope.
We beleive in Aliquippa youth. For the sixth consecutive summer, we will be providing a variety of positive youth development opportunities for approximatley 85 students. Our programs are high quality and specifically designed to develop pro-social assets in the lives of students. Our summer programs also serve as a prevention tool - giving students healthy, structured activities during the summer that are an alternative to the risks posed by large amounts of idle, unstructured time during the summer months.
What Does the Summer Look Like?
This summer, our City Camps program will involve three program sites:
GLOBAL EDUCATION CAMP
This is the program Aliquippa Impact began with three years ago, and we continue to make improvements to the program every year. The program operates at the Linmar Terrace Community Center for over seven weeks and serves approximately 60 students ages 1-6 grade. For four days a week, the program offers highly interactive activiites in global education, literacy, and the arts. Youth have the opportunity to participate in educational and recreational field trips in the Pittsburgh area on the Friday of every week. We purposefully maintain a low student to staff member ratio that ensures students recieve a high level of individualized attention. The program is supplemented by visiting artists who provide exposure to the arts throughout the summer.
STEP CAMP
This is a new offering for the summer of 2010! We are excited to have two step artists work with approximately 10-15 students from fourth through ninth grade in the step art form. Students will learn various step routines and have the opportunity to perform at the end of the summer for the community. Beyond step, students will also learn important lessons in teamwork and leadership.
A FUTURE ANTICIPATED
This new addition to our programming will serve approximately 15 male, high school students. The program seeks to work with male student to help them to envision a future that is full of hope and opporutunity. Through highly creative activities that promote life skils, positive decision making, and cross-cultural understanding, the program will empower young males in the community to resist common stereotypes and negative images in order to become leaders.
Who Is Your Staff?
Our summer staff of approximatley 16 individuals comes from around the country and represents a highly diverse, very dedicated group of individuals who are passionate about youth and community development. They live in the community for the summer months within walking distance of the students and families we serve. Prior to the start of summer programming, they participate in two weeks of intensive training in urban issues, community development, positive youth devleopment, and healthy realtionship building. Our staff is exceptionally committed to building relationships with students and thier families both within and without the program.
What is the Summer of Hope Campaign?
Every year, Aliquippa Impact seeks a variety of sources of financial support including private foundations and government support. However, we are also committed to partnering with individual donors, both locally and from around the country, who share our vision of investing in the lives of Aliquippa youth. Currently, we have a goal of partnering with donors to raise $10,000 in support for Aliquippa Impact before the summer staff arrives on June 6.
Get Involved in Hope!
Every year, we depend on the prayers and financial generosity of individuals who give in both small and large ways to support Aliquippa youth. The Summer of Hope Campaign provides an opportunity to touch the lives of Aliquippa students by providing tangible opportunities in our city.
