Our City Camp program operates in the Linmar Terrace neighborhood of Aliquippa and serves approximately 35 students from the 3rd to 6th grades. The program runs for six to eight weeks during the summer months and provides healthy, wholesome activities for young people during a time of year when idle time poses a threat to our youth.
During City Camp, students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of positive youth development activities including exposure to the developmental assets, recreational activities, art activities, multi-cultural exposure and other educational activities. The program is highly engaging, hands-on, and full of energy.
Youth also participate in a variety of field trips over the summer months. Trips in the past have included excursions to the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, The Carnegie Science Center, The Carnegie Museum of Natural History, The National Aviary, Beechwood Farms, The Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, PNC Park, Brady's Run Park, and swimming field trips to various lakes and swimming pools.
At the end of the summer, young people participate in a community celebration that typically draws a large amount of parents, family, and friends. Youth show off what they have learned, perform for the crowd, and soak in all of the applause and praise. it is truly a fantastic night of celebrating our young people.
At the end of the summer, staff identify youth who would benefit from participation in a cohort. City Camp provides the space within which to introduce students to the developmental assets, build relationships with their families, and lay the foundation for future, long-term involvement in the lives of young people.
